Best Places To Stay in Playa Blanca

Planning a summer holiday this year?  Despite volcanic ash clouds, the weak state of sterling and air crew strikes millions of British holidaymakers would still rather escape abroad than take a chance on the UK´s summer climate.  And as a result popular destinations such as Playa Blanca in Lanzarote still expect to welcome an influx of visitors from Britain this year, as well as from Germany and Spain.

Playa Blanca is the fastest growing resort on Lanzarote – an expansion that has been fuelled by the fact that it enjoys wonderful weather that often outstrips other resorts in terms of sunshine hours and temperatures.  Whilst also offering visitors an array of truly stunning beaches.  Some of which are regarded as amongst the very best in the Canaries.

Playa Blanca started to really take off during the 1990´s – some time after resort rivals Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen were established as popular destinations.  But it has quickly made up for last time and is now the second most popular destination on Lanzarote.

Located around forty minutes from the airport Playa Blanca can be found out on its own at the southern end of the island.  Close to the incredible scenery of the Timanfaya Volcano Park, where around 300 peaks burst from the ground during widescale eruptions in the 18th century which totally transfomed this part of the island. This volcanic legacy is still evident today in some of the accommodation, such as the five star Gran Melia Volcan, widely regarded as one of the best hotels in Lanzarote.  Where the main entrance atrium echoes the volcano theme.

Whilst there is no shortage of decent hotels in the resort many holidaymakers look to book Playa Blanca villas and apartments.  Some of which are extremely luxurious and come equipped with extras such as hot tubs and Jacuzzis.  Expect to pay upwards of €450 per week for a two bedroom rental property.  And more during peak holiday seasons such as Easter and Christmas.

Fortunately for those who like to explore Lanzarote is a small island – so most of the main attractions are within a half hour drive.  Such as the volcanoes, the green lagoon at El Golfo and the island´s unique wine region where farmers use volcanic chippings called picon to mulch their vines.  Car hire in Lanzarote is very good value and there are plenty of places to rent vehicles in Playa Blanca.  So make sure you get out and explore.
