Lanzarote Villas and Accommodation

There are plenty of great places to stay on the popular holiday island of Lanzarote.  Which is located in the Canary Islands off the African coast.  Covering everything from small apartments through to large and luxurious villas.

Lanzarote was first discovered in the 1300´s by an Italian adventurer called Lancelloto Malocello – before being conquered by Spain a century or so later.  And today is one of the most visited parts ofthe country, welcoming well over 1.5 million tourist guests a year.

The island is very dry and arid – there is very little rainfall here and the terrain is volcanic in origin, creating quite an unusual landscape that is largely devoid of trees and plants.  However Lanzarote still has a magnetic appeal as many visitors return year after year.  Whilst the weather here is something else – especially during the winter months.  As even in December tourists can enjoy a day on the beach or by the pool.

Most of the best villas in Lanzarote are located in the two largest resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.  Puerto del Carmen is the closest to the airport making it the ideal choice for anyone who doesn’t like spending much time on a transfer coach.  And offers plenty for everyone – whether large parties of singles or families with young kids.

Most of the action revolves around the main beaches such as Playa Grande, which is the largest stretch of sand in Puerto del Carmen.  This is an ideal spot for kids too as there are plenty of facilities here and the beach shelves gently into the water.

There´s a limited supply of Puerto del Carmen villas for rent – and as a result they are pricier than in Playa Blanca.  With rental rates starting at about €600 per week.  That being said they though they tend to occupy larger plot sizes and as a rule are much better appointed.

Playa Blanca is just a 30 minute drive south of Puerto del Carmen and is a newer and quieter resort.  Located just across the Bocaina Straits from the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.  Which many tourists choose to visit during their time here.  Villas in Playa Blanca can be rented from about €350 per week and nearly all come with their own private swimming pool.

Rubicon Marina is one of the best locations to stay, as this luxury facility opened as recently as 2003 and is home to loads of expensive yachts as well as a good selection of restauarants.
